Fertility Acupuncture

Still have questions?

It is best to receive your first fertility acupuncture appointment just after your period has finished, however we always customise the session to where you are in your cycle!

Specific types of acupuncture improves the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries.

A healthy blood circulation is vital for making a baby. Optimal blood flow normalises reproductive organ function, brings more oxygen, delivers essential nutrients and hormones.

Studies have shown that increased blood flow to the ovaries results in healthier eggs and embryos, and specialised acupuncture improves the quality of follicular fluid.

Research has also found that this natural treatment helps your uterus to produce a three-layered uterine lining. This is the most fertile lining associated with greater chances to conceive both naturally and with assisted reproduction.

It is never too late or too early to start fertility acupuncture! If you are coming off hormonal contraception it is best to see us 3 months before you do so, this will help your body ease off the hormones.

If you’re thinking of trying in the near future it is also beneficial to receive treatment and to help nourish your body and the vital organ: the uterus!

During a fertility acupuncture session, Marija will ask you specific questions about your life, menstrual cycle, how long you’ve been trying for etc.

They may seem a little strange at first but it helps to put together an idea of any underlying factors that could be contributing to your fertility journey.

We will then begin the needling process, most acupoints are based on the tummy. If you’re scared about acupuncture please let Marija know and she will be extra gentle!

After the session, Marija will offer some post treatment advice which can include dietary changes, exercise, sleep advice etc. We also work alongside naturopaths / nutritionist so a referral to them may be made but not 100% necessary!

Of course! Everyone’s sessions are different to each other. You may have more than one problem you’d like to address but they’re probably all interconnected hence why we treat all your concerns.

  • Improving blood flow to testis
  • lowering scrotal temperature
  • enhancing local microcirculation
  • reducing inflammation
  • increasing testosterone levels

Men with high levels of short- and long-term stress or anxiety ejaculated less semen. They had lower sperm concentration and counts.

Furthermore, men with the highest anxiety levels were also more likely to have sperm that were deformed or less motile.

Can acupuncture help? Yes, absolutely. It is well known that acupuncture reduces anxiety and stress by increasing endogenous (feel good) opioids in your body.

A semen analysis is a crucial step in the fertility journey for couples who are struggling to conceive. This test allows doctors to evaluate the quantity, quality, and motility of sperm present in a man’s semen. While infertility is often associated with female factors, male infertility is a common issue that can contribute to difficulties in conceiving. In fact, it’s estimated that male infertility accounts for up to 50% of all infertility cases.

Therefore, it’s essential that men are included in the fertility process and undergo a semen analysis. Acupuncture, which has been shown to improve sperm count and motility, can also be beneficial for men on their fertility journey. By including men in the process and addressing any potential male fertility issues, couples can increase their chances of achieving a successful pregnancy.

Reducing nausea and vomiting: Acupuncture can help alleviate the symptoms of morning sickness, which can be particularly challenging during the first trimester. Studies have shown that acupuncture can reduce the frequency and severity of nausea and vomiting.

Alleviating fatigue: Many women experience fatigue during the first trimester of pregnancy. Acupuncture can help increase energy levels and reduce feelings of fatigue.

Reducing stress and anxiety: Pregnancy can be a stressful time, and the first trimester can be particularly anxiety-provoking as you adjust to the changes in your body. Acupuncture can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can be beneficial for both you and your growing baby.

Supporting overall health and well-being: Acupuncture can help support the body’s natural healing processes and promote overall health and well-being during pregnancy. This can be especially important during the first trimester, as the body is undergoing significant changes to support the growth and development of the fetus.

Alleviating physical discomfort: As your body continues to adjust to pregnancy, you may experience physical discomfort such as back pain, hip pain, or swelling in the legs and feet. Acupuncture can help reduce pain and inflammation, and promote circulation to alleviate these symptoms.

Supporting healthy fetal development: During the second trimester, the fetus is growing rapidly, and acupuncture can help support healthy fetal development by promoting good blood flow and oxygenation to the placenta.

Managing stress and anxiety: Pregnancy can be a stressful time, and the second trimester can be particularly anxiety-provoking as you prepare for the arrival of your baby. Acupuncture can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can be beneficial for both you and your growing baby.

Labor induction: Acupuncture can be used to naturally induce labor in women who are close to their due date. Specific acupuncture points can be targeted to help stimulate uterine contractions and ripen the cervix. This approach may be used if a pregnancy is progressing normally and is not considered high-risk.

Pain relief during labor: Acupuncture can also be used as a natural pain relief method during labor. Studies have shown that acupuncture can help reduce the need for pain medication during labor, and can also help improve the overall birth experience.

Breech presentation: If the baby is in a breech position (feet or buttocks down instead of head down), acupuncture can be used to encourage the baby to turn into the optimal position for delivery.

Preparing for labor and delivery: Acupuncture can help prepare the body for labor and delivery by promoting relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety, and improving circulation to the pelvic area.

Pain management: Acupuncture can help reduce pain associated with endometriosis by promoting the release of endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body. By targeting specific acupuncture points, pain signals can be blocked or reduced, providing relief for endometriosis-related pain.

Hormonal regulation: Endometriosis is often linked to hormonal imbalances. Acupuncture can help regulate hormone levels by promoting the release of certain hormones and reducing the levels of others, which can help alleviate symptoms associated with endometriosis.

Inflammation reduction: Endometriosis is associated with inflammation in the pelvic region. Acupuncture can help reduce inflammation by improving circulation and promoting the body’s natural healing processes.

Fertility support: Endometriosis can make it difficult for women to conceive. Acupuncture can help support fertility by regulating menstrual cycles, improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, and reducing stress and anxiety, which can negatively impact fertility.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that affects women’s hormone levels and can lead to irregular menstrual periods, acne, weight gain, and difficulty conceiving. Acupuncture can be a beneficial therapy for managing symptoms associated with PCOS. Here’s how:

Hormonal regulation: Acupuncture can help regulate hormone levels, particularly insulin and androgen levels, which can be imbalanced in women with PCOS. By targeting specific acupuncture points, the body’s natural hormone production can be stimulated, helping to regulate menstrual cycles and reduce symptoms such as acne and unwanted hair growth.

Ovarian function: Acupuncture can improve ovarian function and promote healthy ovulation in women with PCOS. This can increase the chances of conceiving naturally and improve the effectiveness of fertility treatments.

Weight management: Women with PCOS often struggle with weight gain and difficulty losing weight. Acupuncture can help support weight management by reducing food cravings, improving digestion, and promoting relaxation and stress reduction.

Stress reduction: Stress can worsen symptoms associated with PCOS. Acupuncture can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can be beneficial for managing symptoms and improving overall well-being.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Still have questions?

Get in touch

Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as facial acupuncture or acupuncture facelift, is a non-surgical procedure that uses traditional Chinese acupuncture techniques to promote skin health and reduce the signs of aging.

During the procedure, very fine acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points on the face and body to improve circulation, stimulate collagen production, and promote lymphatic drainage. This can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, and increase facial muscle tone.

Cosmetic acupuncture is believed to work by increasing blood flow and oxygen to the face, which can nourish and rejuvenate the skin. It can also stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which are key proteins that help keep skin firm and elastic.

Cosmetic acupuncture can benefit individuals who are looking for a natural approach to improving their skin’s appearance and reducing the signs of aging. It can be especially beneficial for those who are looking to avoid or delay more invasive cosmetic procedures such as Botox or facelifts.

Cosmetic acupuncture may be particularly helpful for those who have:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles on their face
  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • Sagging skin or loss of facial muscle tone
  • Acne or acne scars
  • Dark circles or puffiness around the eyes
  • Dry or dull skin

The number of sessions of cosmetic acupuncture that you may need can vary depending on your individual skin concerns and goals. Generally, a series of 10-12 sessions is recommended for optimal results, with sessions typically spaced one to two weeks apart.

During your initial consultation, a Marija will assess your skin and discuss your goals to create a personalised treatment plan. She may also recommend additional treatments or lifestyle changes to support your skin’s health and enhance the effects of the acupuncture.

It is important to note that while cosmetic acupuncture can provide noticeable improvements to the skin’s appearance, results may not be immediate and may require ongoing maintenance treatments to maintain the effects over time.

Your treatment will consist of several components that work together to promote healthy, radiant skin. The cosmetic acupuncture component involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the face and body to improve circulation and stimulate collagen production.

This is followed by a gua sha and facial massage, which involves using a smooth, flat tool to gently massage the face and neck, helping to reduce puffiness, increase circulation, and promote lymphatic drainage.

Finally, a hydrojelly mask will be applied to the face, which is a hydrating and nourishing mask that contains various vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to help soothe and protect the skin. This comprehensive treatment can help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone and texture, leaving you with a refreshed and rejuvenated complexion.

Our approach to cosmetic acupuncture is different to every other clinic in New Zealand. With our 4 step approach to your facial, leave feeling confident that your skin will be glowing! Each session is completely customisable to your skin needs, right down to where we place the needles and what hydration mask we use, giving you an experience like no other!

What is

Microneedling

Still have questions?

Get in touch

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves creating tiny, controlled injuries to the skin using a device called a dermaroller or a pen-like device with multiple small needles. The goal of microneedling is to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and promote the production of collagen and elastin, two key proteins that help keep skin firm and elastic.

After the procedure, the skin may appear red and feel slightly tender, but this typically resolves within a few days.

It is best not to cause excessive sweating / have direct sunlight for 24 hours after the procedure as this can irritate the skin.

The number of microneedling sessions you may need can vary depending on your individual skin concerns and goals. Generally, a series of 3-6 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is recommended for optimal results.

The number of sessions needed may also depend on the severity of your skin concerns. For example, if you have deep acne scars, you may need more sessions than someone with fine lines and wrinkles. Marija will evaluate your skin during an initial consultation and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

It is important to note that while you may see some improvement after just one session, the full benefits of microneedling may take several weeks to months to fully appear as your skin produces new collagen and elastin. It is also important to follow proper aftercare instructions and protect your skin from sun exposure to ensure the best possible results.

During the procedure, the device is rolled or pressed over the skin, creating small punctures or channels. These channels can trigger the production of new collagen and elastin, as well as increase the absorption of topical skincare products.

Microneedling can be beneficial for a variety of skin concerns, including:

Fine lines and wrinkles: Microneedling can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Acne scars: Microneedling can help break down scar tissue and stimulate the production of new collagen, which can improve the appearance of acne scars.

Hyperpigmentation: Microneedling can help break up areas of hyperpigmentation and promote more even skin tone.

Stretch marks: Microneedling can help improve the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating collagen production and reducing scar tissue.

Overall skin texture: Microneedling can improve the overall texture and smoothness of the skin, making it appear more radiant and youthful.

At our clinic, we use mesotherapy in combination with microneedling. This gives you the best results possible as we are infusing the skin with a serum that is chosen for your concerns / skin type. Using the two combined is something that very few clinics offer in New Zealand! We ensure that all clients receive a completely customisable session with products that you can also take home with you.
